I had a chance to experience Hotel Argo rather good as I was there two times. I could check what is changing and what is constant.
My first stay in Argo Hotel was in January 2015, second stay was two months after. Hotel is placed at Kralja Milana street, so it’s Belgarde center. The distance from the airport to the hotel it’s 18.5 km. By the way – if you are on Nicola Tesla Airport remember one thing. If you want to travel by taxi (which is reasonable) you need to find a point TAXI. You should go there and say where you want to go. The person will tell you what is the cost of travel, you will get a voucher and you will be leaded to concrete cab. The cost of travel from airport to city center is approx. 1500 – 2000 dinars (12-16 EUR). Don’t use any other cabs if you don’t want to pay a fortune.
OK, let’s talk about hotel. When you reach reception desk you might be a little surprised. It’s really small desk located close to stairs, but it’s the only possible place. Reception people are very friendly and helpful like most of Serbian people (or it’s my luck to meet only that kind of people :)). Another suprised is a lift. Or rather lack of lift. Well, probably lift is there but it’s not working so you should be fit or you should do stops when you will take a stairs.
Rooms – there’s no surprises. There’s everything what should be in hotel room. Rooms are quite big and nice. I stayed in two differents rooms and both of them were equiped well and were clean. There’s one thing which I don’t understand is air condition. If you used to sleep in room with lower temperature just open the window becuase air condition only heats. Even receptionist was not able to make it work properly and cool the temperature. The other receptionist said that it works but unfortunatelly I had no chance to experience it.
Bathroom is interesting. It’s well equiped and clean. What is interesting is the fact that bathroom is separated from room by glass pasted with stickers. When I was using shower I was wondering if the glassed were properly sealed or there will be flood in room. Fortunately it was done good. Unfortunatelly the shower wasn’t created in the best way – there’s no doors so water is poured on floor.
Breakfast – buffet and fairly simple choice. Some meat, some cheese, fruit, vegetables, etc. What deserves the attention is one of the best things in the Balkans sauce / cream / spices called Ajvar. It depends where do you live but there is a chance that you may buy it in your shop, still it tastes the best in Balkans. The restaurant is small, but as with other places kept clean.
Just outside the hotel is the quite well-stocked shop where you can buy “souvenirs” from Belgrade. Rakija, wine or mentioned Ajvar. In any case, better to do it here than at the airport for obvious reasons.
As I mentioned the previous hotel is located in the center of Belgrade, thus getting from here to any place should not be a problem. Public transport (which I had no chance to use) has its stops nearby.
If you want to stay in the center of Belgrade, and you do not expect a highest 5 stars standard, you want to pay a reasonable price and in addition you are able to cope with the possible lack of air-conditioning – you should stop at the Argo.
